Muslim Arab theologian.

He probably belonged to the family of Ab 016B; M 016B; s 0101; al-Ash 02BD; ar 012B; , one of the Companions of the Prophet . He joined the Mutazilah school and compiled scholarly opinions in his Maq 0101; l 0101; t al-Isl 0101; m 012B; y 012B; n ("Theological Opinions of the Muslims"). At about age 40 he concluded that his method had led to sterile concepts of God and humanity, and he turned to more orthodox theology. He expanded his Maq 0101; l 0101; t and authored Kit 0101; b al-Luma 02BD; ("The Luminous Book"). Reflecting on the ideas of al- Muh 0101; sib 012B; and others, he created his own school, which became known as the Khor 0101; s 0101; n, or Ash 02BD; arite, school. See also Ashariyyah .
