Site of temple ruins, west-central Peru.
The ruins belong to the Chavín pre-Columbian culture, which flourished 0441; 900 0441; 200 BC. The central building is a massive temple complex constructed of rectangular stone blocks; it contains interior galleries and incorporates bas-relief carvings on pillars and lintels.
