The river flows northward 594 mi (956 km) over the Fula Rapids, past Juba (the head of navigation), and through a vast swampy region. It receives the Ghaz 0101; l River at Lake No and then turns east to join the S 016B; b 0101; t River of western Ethiopia, thereafter forming the White Nile River .
