Meaning of ANION in English

Atom or group of atoms carrying a negative electric charge , indicated by a superscript minus sign after the chemical symbol.

Anions in a liquid subjected to an electric field migrate toward the positive electrode ( anode ). Examples include hydroxyl (―OH - ; see hydroxide ), carbonate (―CO 3 2- ), and phosphate (―PO 4 3- ). See also ion ; Compare cation .
