River, southern Canada.

Rising in Saskatchewan, it flows southeast across Manitoba into the Red River of the North at Winnipeg . It is about 590 mi (950 km) long and has two tributaries, the Qu'Appelle and the Souris . Explored by Pierre La Verendrye in 1736, it later served as a route to the plains by colonists from Red River Settlement.
