It is a leading grain market and an industrial centre, with manufactures including pharmaceuticals, machinery, and transportation and electrical equipment. The annual Indianapolis 500 automobile race is an international event; the Speedway Hall of Fame Museum is located there. Indianapolis is the site of several colleges and universities.
