also spelled Acarahy, or Akarai, Portuguese Serra Acara, low range on the border of Brazil (Par state) and southern Guyana. The mountains, which rise to about 2,000 feet (600 m) above sea level, run in an east-west direction for about 80 miles (130 km) and form part of the northern watershed of the Amazon Basin. The whole area is covered with dense tropical rain forest and was mapped by satellite in the late 1970s.
