born June 8, 1939, Philadelphia, Pa., U.S. byname of Herbert Anthony Adderley American professional National Football League (NFL) defensive cornerback and kickoff-return specialist. Adderley graduated from Michigan State University (East Lansing) and joined the Green Bay Packers as their first draft choice in 1961. He played for them until he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 1969. In 1973, his final season, he played for the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots. Adderley scored six touchdowns after interceptions in one season and made a 60-yard touchdown run after an interception in the 1968 Super Bowl. He played in four Super Bowl games (Green Bay, 1967-68, and Dallas, 1971-72). He was elected to the football Hall of Fame in 1980.
