AMAMBA MOUNTAINS

Meaning of AMAMBA MOUNTAINS in English

Portuguese Serra De Amamba, Spanish Cordillera De Amambay, highlands in western Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil, and eastern Paraguay. Extending south-southwest initially as the Maracaju Mountains for approximately 200 miles (320 km) from Campo Grande, the capital of Mato Grosso do Sul, they form the western side of the Brazilian Highlands and mark the divide between the tributaries of the Paraguay River and those of the Paran. Like most of the highlands of the Mato Grosso, the Amamba Mountains are tabular uplands without sharp peaks. The average elevation is 1,300 feet (400 m) above sea level; the highest elevation is 2,300 feet (700 m). The southern end of the highlands constitutes a part of the border between Brazil and Paraguay. Principal towns of the Amamba Mountains include Ponta Por, Brazil, and Pedro Juan Caballero, Paraguay.
