ANALYTIC PSYCHOLOGY

Meaning of ANALYTIC PSYCHOLOGY in English

the psychoanalytic method of the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung as he distinguished it from that of Sigmund Freud. He attached less importance than did Freud to the role of sexuality in the neuroses, and he stressed the analysis of the patient's immediate conflicts as being more useful in understanding his problems than the uncovering of the conflicts of childhood. He defined the unconscious as including both the individual's own unconscious and that which he inherited from his ancestors (the collective unconscious). He classified people into introverted and extroverted types and further distinguished them according to four primary functions of the mindthinking, feeling, sensation, and intuitionone or more of which predominated in any given person.
