Meaning of BERENGARIO DA CARPI, JACOPO in English

born c. 1460, Carpi died c. 1530, Ferrara Italian physician and anatomist who was the first to describe the heart valves. He also was one of the first to illustrate medical works with drawings from nature. Berengario was a professor at the University of Bologna from 1502 to 1527. While there he became known for his use of mercurial ointment in the treatment of syphilis.
