It includes various communities and developmental stages of communities and is named for the dominant type of vegetation, such as grassland or coniferous forest. Several similar biomes constitute a biome typefor example, the temperate deciduous forest biome type includes the deciduous forest biomes of Asia, Europe, and North America. Major life zone is the European phrase for the North American biome concept.
