Meaning of BOUCHERVILLE in English

town, Montrgie region, southern Quebec province, Canada, on the east bank of the St. Lawrence River, opposite Montreal Island (le de Montral) and northeast of Montreal city. Founded in 1668 by Pierre Boucher, after whom it is named, the town has long been a market-gardening centre. Since World War II it has developed rapidly into a residential suburb linked to Montreal by the LaFontaine Bridge-Tunnel of the Trans-Canada Highway. Food canning and the manufacture of clothing are the main industries. The birthplace of Sir Louis Hippolyte LaFontaine (a prime minister of United Canada), Boucherville is also the site of a 17th-century manor house built by its founder. Inc. 1957. Pop. (1991) 33,796.
