Othello's honourable lieutenant in Shakespeare's Othello. A likable and trustworthy soldier, Cassio has been promoted by Othello over Iago. This act galls the already malignant Iago, who plays upon carefully arranged circumstance and Cassio's known weakness for wine and women to insinuate to Othello that Cassio is having an affair with Desdemona.
