CONGA

Meaning of CONGA in English

a dance of African origin, developed primarily in Cuba but popular in many Latin-American countries. The music is in 2/4 time and is based on a two-measure rhythmic pattern, with a symmetrical first measure and a syncopated second, serving as a basis for constantly repeated short phrases of two to four measures. Dancers stand behind one another, forming a chain, and march in a 123kick pattern. The conga was popular as a ballroom dance in the 1930s and early 1940s.
