Meaning of CORONA in English

city, Riverside county, southwestern California, U.S., at the east end of the Santa Ana Canyon. Originally part of the Rancho La Sierra, it was laid out as South Riverside when Queen Colony, a citrus growers' organization, was established (1886). In 1896 it was incorporated and renamed Corona (circle) for the 3-mi (5-km) circular drive (now around the central city), which was the scene of free-for-all auto races, 191316. It developed as a citrus processingshipping centre. Light manufacturing has aided the economy. Prado Dam to the north, in the Santa Ana River, impounds Lake Mathews. Hot springs are in the vicinity. Pop. (1990) 76,095.
