island, Storstrm amtskommune (county commune), Denmark. It lies in the Baltic Sea and is connected to southern Sjlland (Zealand) and Lolland islands by the Storstrms Bridge. Falster has an area of 198 square miles (514 square km). Its southern tip, Gedser Odde, is Denmark's most southerly point. Closely associated with Sjlland and Lolland socially and agriculturally, it is flat, with forests in the centre and on the east coast. The fertile soil supports sugar beets and grain. Nykbing Falster and Stubbekbing are the main population centres. Pop. (1990 est.) 42,846.
