FRENCH GUIANA

officially Department of Guiana, French Guyane, or Dpartement de la Guyane overseas dpartement of France, situated on the northeastern coast of South America. French Guiana has an area of 33,399 square miles (86,504 square km) and is bounded by Brazil to the south and east, Suriname to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the northeast. The capital is Cayenne. French Guiana's population was estimated at 120,000 in 1991.
