Meaning of KOTA TINGGI in English

town, West Malaysia (Malaya), on the Sungai (River) Johor, north of its estuary at the Singapore Strait. It was one of the river capitals (168599) of the Johore-Riau (Riouw) kingdom. The modern town is an administrative centre and petroleum depot for an area of rubber plantations and tin mining. It is linked by road to Johor Baharu and Mersing. Immediately north on Gunung (Mt.) Muntahak (2,080 feet ) are the scenic Kota Tinggi Waterfalls; the highest cataract drops 80 feet (24 m) into the Sungai Pelepah. The historic site of Johore Lama (Old Johore) is downriver from Kota Tinggi near the straits. Pop. (1980) 13,056.
