Meaning of LAUTOKA in English

city on the northwest coast of Viti Levu (island), Fiji, in the South Pacific. Situated on the dry side of the island, Lautoka (originally called Namoli) serves an important sugarcane-growing district and is Fiji's leading sugar export port. Large mills in the city are supplied with cane by a private railroad. Roads circling the island link Lautoka to Suva (about 140 miles southeast). Lautoka is 17 miles (27 km) north of the international airport at Nandi (Nadi). Pop. (1986) 28,728.
