Meaning of LEBOWAKGOMO in English

new town, Northern province, South Africa. It was the capital of the former nonindependent black state of Lebowa. Lebowakgomo lies southeast of Pietersburg. The town, established in 1974 with a population of only 115 inhabitants, was enlarged and developed in the early 1980s. The commercial establishments included bakeries, bottle stores, wood and coal yards, and butchering establishments. Industries at nearby Pietersburg, Potgietersrus, Tzaneen, and Phalaborwa employ a number of workers from Lebowakgomo. The lake called Chuniespoortdam supplies water to the town, which is linked by road to Pietersburg. Pop. (1985) 8,369.
