Meaning of MARING in English

city, northwestern Paran state, southern Brazil, on the Paran Plateau, at 169 ft (52 m) above sea level. Maring grew rapidly after its founding in 1947. Many of its residents are Japanese. Much of the local economic activity is based on coffee growing. Other important crops include corn (maize), feijo (beans), rice, wheat, and sugarcane. The Universidade Estadual de Maring is located there. The city is accessible by air, road, and rail from Curitiba, the state capital, to the southeast, and from So Paulo. Pop. (1980 prelim.) 158,047.
