MATERNITY AND INFANT WELFARE

Meaning of MATERNITY AND INFANT WELFARE in English

by Grace Abbott As head of the United States Children's Bureau, Grace Abbott was naturally concerned with maternity and infant welfare. In the small space allotted her by the editors of the Thirteenth Edition (1926) of the Encyclopdia Britannica, Abbott discusses the general state of affairs and touches briefly on the subject of maternal mortality. Nothing of a statistical nature is said about infant mortality, perhaps because of the unavailability of information. One wishes more space had been devoted to such matters as the analysis of the rather alarming U.S. statistics on maternal mortality. Maternity and Infant Welfare
