Meaning of MONTROUGE in English

formally Le Grand-Montrouge town, Hauts-de-Seine dpartement, Paris rgion, southern suburb of Paris, in north-central France. The area, recorded as Mons Rubicus (Latin: Red Mountain), from the local reddish soil, in ancient charters, was divided in 1860Le Petit Montrouge was absorbed into the 14th arrondissement (administrative division) of Paris, and the remainder formed the commune of Montrouge. It has printing and bookbinding establishments and manufactures surgical instruments, radios and televisions, and perfume. A women's teachers' college is located there. Pop. (1990) 38,333.
