MOTALA

town, in stergtland ln (county), southern Sweden, situated on Vttern (lake), at the efflux of the Motala Strm (Motala Stream). The town, incorporated in 1881, is a centre of heavy industry and the site of a hydroelectric plant and a transmitting station, as well as being a summer resort, with open-air bathing at Varamon on Vttern. Motala is a station on the Gta Kanal and has good road and rail connections with the rest of Sweden. Pop. (1984 est.) mun., 41,432.
