Meaning of ROME, TREATIES OF in English

two international agreements signed in Rome on March 25, 1957, by Belgium, France, the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany), Italy, Luxembourg, and The Netherlands. One treaty established the European Community (q.v.) and created a common market and customs union among its members. The other created the European Atomic Energy Community (q.v.), for the purpose of developing peaceful applications of atomic energy.
