SEYNE-SUR-MER, LA

town, southwestern suburb of Toulon, Var dpartement, Provence-Alpes-Cte-d'Azur rgion, southeastern France. La Seyne is a shipbuilding centre manufacturing specialized vessels such as container ships and liquid natural gas carriers. It is located on Cape Sici, which forms the Toulon roadstead in the Mediterranean and contains naval shipyards. Its Balaguier Fortress was built in the 17th century as part of the defenses of Toulon. A summer jazz festival and periodic art exhibits are held there each year. Pop. (1982) 57,140; (1990) 60,567.
