Meaning of STNG TRNG in English

also spelled Stung Treng, town, northeastern Cambodia. Stng Trng lies at the confluence of the San, Kong, and Mekong rivers. It is linked to Phnom Penh, the national capital, and to Laos by a national highway. The area around Stng Trng is inhabited by the mountain Mon-Khmer, valley Khmer, and Lao-Tai peoples. The main agricultural product is rice. Cassava, sweet potatoes, and bananas are also grown. There are vast bamboo groves, and forested areas contain good-quality hardwoods such as rosewood, wild date, mahogany, teak, berry, bean, and rubber trees. The region has basaltic red soils that give it a rubber-growing potential. Mineral resources include coal, iron ore, copper, and gold. Pop. (1971 est.) 4,173.
