mountain in Iron county, southeastern Missouri, U.S., highest point (1,772 feet ) of the St. Francois Mountains and of the state. Part of the main uplift of the forested Ozark Mountains, it lies 90 miles (145 km) south of St. Louis. The name of Sauk (Sac) probably refers to the Indian tribal name meaning outlet.
