TOUCHSTONE

a cynical court jester who comments on human foibles in Shakespeare's As You Like It. Touchstone is a member of the household of Frederick, the usurping duke. When Celia, Frederick's daughter, and Rosalind, the banished duke's daughter, flee from the court, Touchstone accompanies them to the Forest of Arden. There, he falls in love with Audrey, a bucolic, slow-witted young woman whom he openly insults but later marries.
