WINDOW FLY

(family Scenopinidae), any of a group of rare, black flies (order Diptera) that are a little smaller than the housefly. The adults are seen on windows; the larvae live in decaying wood, in fungi, or in carpets. Most are parasitic, feeding on other insects.
