a US singer who was popular in the 1960s. He is mainly remembered for The Twist (1960) which created a craze (= something that is suddenly very popular or fashionable) for the dance of that name. He was born Ernest Evans and chose his new name as a humorous variation of the name Fats Domino . (A checker and a domino are pieces used in different board games.).
