the copying of Chinese designs in furniture or decoration. It became very popular in 17th–century Europe. Well-known examples of chinoiserie are the willow pattern on plates, etc. and, on a larger scale, the Banqueting Hall and Music Room at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, England.
