a member of a Native-American people. They were mostly farmers, originally in the states of Alabama and Georgia . They were one of the Five Civilized Tribes . Under their leader Tecumseh they were defeated by General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend (1814) in Alabama. They were then moved to the West. Many now live in the state of Oklahoma .
