1. ( also pantomime dame ) one of the main characters in a British pantomime . The dame is an ugly old woman who has a strong comic role, and is almost always played by a man.

2. ( also Dame ) ( in Britain ) the title of a woman who has been given the OBE or any of certain other awards by the King or Queen:
