Pooter was not a real person; the diary was written by George and Weedon Grossmith as a comic story of life in suburbia and the type of person who lives there. It begins when the good but boring Mr Pooter and his wife move into their new house. Pooter describes the pleasures of home improvements, small polite parties, his fear of social embarrassment and his many other small pleasures, problems and accidents.
