(1941–)

a famous US singer and writer of folk rock music, whose unusual voice and sometimes mysterious way of life made him even more popular. His songs of political and social protest greatly influenced young people in the 1960s. They include Blowin’ in the Wind (1963) and The Times They Are A-Changin’ (1964). Among his other successful songs are Mr Tambourine Man (1965), Lay Lady Lay (1969) and Knocking on Heaven’s Door (1973). Recent albums include Time Out of Mind (1997) and Love and Theft (2001). He received an Oscar for the song Things have Changed in 2001.
