I . Henry Fonda

(1905–82)

a US actor who often played calm, honest characters. He was a Hollywood star for more than 40 years in over 100 films, but won only one Oscar , for his last film, On Golden Pond (1981). His other successes included The Grapes of Wrath (1940) and Twelve Angry Men (1957). He was the father of the actors Jane Fonda and Peter Fonda .

II . Jane Fonda

(1937– )

a US actor also known for her strong political opinions and her successful video of physical exercises for keeping fit. She won Oscars for Klute (1971) and Coming Home (1978). Her other films include Barbarella (1968) and On Golden Pond (1981), the only film she made with her father Henry Fonda . Fonda was once called ‘Hanoi Jane’ because of her long campaign against the Vietnam War . She was married to Ted Turner until 2001.

III . Peter Fonda

(1939– )

a US actor and director who is the son of Henry Fonda and the brother of Jane Fonda . His daughter Bridget Fonda (1964– ) is also an actor. He became well known with the film Easy Rider but others, such as Futureworld (1976) and The Hired Hand (1971), were less successful. In 1997 he made Ulee’s Gold about a man who keeps bees, as Fonda’s own father did.
