a US film actor who was especially famous in the 1930s and 1940s. He was sometimes referred to as the ‘King of Hollywood’. His best-known role was as Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind . Gable won an Oscar for his part in the comedy It Happened One Night , and his other films included Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) and The Misfits (1960) with Marilyn Monroe .
