the 29th US President (1921–3). Some members of his government were involved in illegal activities, including the Teapot Dome scandal. Harding himself was opposed to the US becoming a member of the League of Nations. He was a member of the Republican Party and had first been elected to the US Senate (1914–20) from Ohio .
