an English playwright and theatre director whose plays are about moral and political issues, especially in Britain. He has been an Associate Director of the National Theatre since 1984. His plays include Slag (1970), The Secret Rapture (1988) and Racing Demon (1990). He is married to the fashion designer Nicole Farhi.
