an international company based in the US that makes a large range of food in tins, including baked beans , soup and baby food. Heinz salad cream and tomato ketchup (= sauce), are very popular in many countries. At one time the number 57 on Heinz tins was supposed to show the number of varieties of food produced by the company but it was never an accurate figure and the company now sells well over a thousand varieties of food.
