Meaning of HOGARTH in English

(1697–1764)

an English painter and engraver (= person who cuts or carves designs in metal, stone, etc.), best known for his sets of paintings that tell a moral story, such as The Rake’s Progress (1733–5) and Marriage à la Mode (1743–5). His house in Chiswick, London, is now a museum.
