a US actor. She won an Oscar and Golden Globe Award for her role as a woman who could not speak in The Piano (1993). Her other films include Raising Arizona (1987), The Firm (1993), Crash (1996) and O Brother, Where Art Thou (2000). She has also won two Emmy awards for television films.
