1. a large public park in central London, England, next to Kensington Gardens . It is famous for Speakers’ Corner , where people can make public speeches on any topic, Rotten Row , a riding track for horses, and the Serpentine lake. In 1851 the Great Exhibition was held in Hyde Park, and it is today a centre for large public meetings and concerts. At the south-east corner of the park is Hyde Park Corner , a place where several busy streets meet.

2. a district to the south of central Chicago , along the edge of Lake Michigan . It includes the University of Chicago.
