INDIAN MUTINY

Meaning of INDIAN MUTINY in English

a serious revolt (1857–8) by the Indian army against British rule in India. It began in the north of India and in some places developed into a general protest. When it was defeated by the British, India was placed under the direct control of the British government, rather than the East India Company which had previously governed it.
