Meaning of JUDICIAL RESTRAINT in English

( in the US legal system ) the idea that judges of the Supreme Court or other courts should not try to change laws if they are consistent with the words of the American Constitution . This is also called a ‘narrow construction’ of the Constitution. Judicial restraint is the opposite of judicial activism .
