a US designer of casual (= informal) clothes. He began his company in 1968 making suits and coats, but changed to ‘sportswear’ in the 1970s. He is especially known for making fashionable jeans and for controversial advertisements. In one of these, the actor Brooke Shields wore the jeans and said, ‘Nothing comes between me and my Calvins.’ There are also Calvin Klein perfumes such as Obsession and CK One.
