( in British legend ) the men of high rank who served King Arthur . They are often shown in pictures wearing heavy armour and riding horses. They sat at a round table so that none of them would appear to have a higher rank than the others. The best-known Knights include Sir Galahad , Sir Gawain and Sir Lancelot .
