a leading British orchestra established in London in 1932 by Thomas Beecham . Its main conductor since 2000 is Kurt Masur and past conductors have included Adrian Boult (1951–7), Bernard Haitink (1967–79) and Georg Solti (1979–83). It is based at the Royal Festival Hall and plays at Glyndebourne every summer.
